HSDPA to dominate mobile broadband

HSDPA to dominate mobile broadband

August 17, 2015

According to a new report from Juniper Research, ‘Mobile Broadband Markets: EV-DO, WiMAX, HSPA & Beyond 2015-2012′, HSPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) will account for around 70% of mobile broadband network deployments over the next five years.

The company expects 1 in 3 mobile subscribers to use a mobile broadband connection by 2012 – a total of around 1.2 billion users, leading to the value of mobile broadband service revenues globally growing to over $400bn pa by 2012.

Uptake of the technology will be driven by demand mainly from North America and Western Europe, but also from the Far East and China.

It will also depend on the availability of mobile broadband compatible devices such as handsets, laptops and media players.

After HSPA, EV-DO (Revs. A & B), is expected to be the next most popular technology, with uptake of the technology expected to be greatest in the Americas and Far East.
